James Tolkan, known for his roles as an authoritarian figure in the Back to the Future and Top Gun films, has died. He was 94.
Tolkan died Thursday in Lake Placid, New York, where he lived, his booking agent, John Alcantar, said Saturday. A brief obituary published on the Back to the Future website said Tolkan died “peacefully”, but no cause of death was given.

The team from Bluesky has built another app — and this time, it’s not a social network, but an AI assistant that allows you to design your own algorithm, create custom feeds, and, one day, vibe-code your own app.
At the Atmosphere conference over the weekend, Bluesky’s former CEO, Jay Graber, now chief innovation officer, and Bluesky CTO Paul Frazee, presented the AI app, called Attie, for the first time. Conference attendees will become the initial beta testers for the new experience, which leverages Anthropic’s Claude under the hood to create an agentic social app built on Bluesky’s underlying protocol, the AT Protocol (or atproto for short).

In a bid to cool rising oil prices amid the ongoing Middle East crisis the Trump administration has begun releasing crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), lending 45.2 million barrels to energy companies in its first round. The volume released so far represents just over half of the 86 million barrels the administration had earlier said it would make available in the initial phase. The broader plan is to lend a total of 172 million barrels, with deliveries scheduled through this year and into the next, according to Reuters.

Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators said the crash happened before 2 p.m. in the 280 block of South Beach Road when a truck pulling a small pressure-cleaning trailer was traveling north and slowing to turn into a driveway. That’s when a Land Rover, driven by Woods, approached from behind at a high rate speed, the sheriff’s office said.
